This is a dilemma of today's times.

Should I get my puppy from a puppy store?

Should I buy from a Private breeder?

Should I get a show dog?

There is good and bad in all those choices .

Easy searches on the web do their best to steer the public away from pet stores. Puppy stores are always accused of selling only puppy milled pups.

We see on the news, and on animal planet the horrid conditions of puppy mills. There is no legal defintion for the Term Puppy Mill. To most the understandingof a Puppy Mill is a unclean, negectful, sad place.

The truth be told if a store is buying pups from these sources it will simply show. no shampoo can wash away what a real horrid Breeder will produce. unsoclialied puppies are not friendly, nor do they make good pets.

 

The plus about pet stores and why the public keeps going back to them is the fact that they are a business, and because of this the consumer has more protection then lets say buying from a small hobby breeder. Or a mom and pop whose female was bred. even so called reputable breeders are impossible to go after legally.

Some breeders get a bit ridiculous with the restrictions they sell their puppies under. A family that wants a family pet does not want to go through the inspections and promises they have to make to some of these breeders. Many consumers also are not the waiting kind. A 2 year wait for that right pup just does not hack it for most.

With this said lets get down to the nitty gritty.

Why we are so concerned about picking that right family pup?

Health!!

The only thing you can do is eliminate the obvious things.

 First off avoid inbreeding of any kind. 
 
A truth about inbreeding

Inbred dogs produce smaller litters. People in the business of breeding puppies for a living are not going to do this for that fact. . People that are breeding for a living do not want to continually produce pups that grow out defective, being that professonal breeders will stand behind their product.

 

 People that breed for hobby or for personal enjoyment do not have the same motives as a person who makes their sole living off of breeding. Just a basic fact of the business. Are you going to deal with business people or egos? That is the choice. Just be careful what kind of business person you are dealing with.
